Sierra Leone Basketball Federation and Africell Inspect Proposed Site for Indoor Basketball Court
The Sierra Leone Basketball Federation (SLBF) is one step closer to realizing its vision of building an indoor basketball court in Aberdeen. During a site visit today, the President of SLBF, Alie Hijazi, Africell’s owner, Ziad Dalloul, and CEO, Shadi Al-Gerjawi, along with Africell’s marketing and finance teams, assessed the proposed location for the project, which is expected to be completed within three years.
Also present were Dr. Abdul Rahman Swarray and Director Stevens from the National Sports Authority (NSA), who joined the delegation to inspect the site and show their support for the initiative.
Following the visit, Africell’s Group Chairman, Ziad Dalloul, gave the green light for the project, reinforcing the company’s commitment to supporting sports development in Sierra Leone. SLBF President Alie Hijazi used the opportunity to appeal to the NSA to engage the Ministry of Sports and the Ministry of Lands to expedite the necessary documentation. These approvals are critical to ensuring the project starts as scheduled.
This initiative marks a historic collaboration between Africell, the leading telecommunications company in Sierra Leone, and the SLBF, as they work together to deliver the nation’s first-ever indoor basketball court. Their partnership underscores Africell’s dedication to community development and the empowerment of young athletes.
The project represents a significant investment in the development of sports infrastructure in Sierra Leone, providing athletes with a state-of-the-art facility and promoting the growth of basketball in the country.
